followers of my faith [Mormon Monday 86]

In this passage in Numbers 17, the Israelites are trying to rebel against Aaron as their leader, so the Lord gives Moses some direction to show that Aaron is His chosen leader.

1 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and take of every one of them a rod according to the house of their fathers, of all their princes according to the house of their fathers twelve rods: write thou every man’s name upon his rod.
3 And thou shalt write Aaron’s name upon the rod of Levi: for one rod shall be for the head of the house of their fathers.
4 And thou shalt lay them up in the tabernacle of the congregation before the testimony, where I will meet with you.
5 And it shall come to pass, that the man’s rod, whom I shall choose, shall blossom: and I will make to cease from me the murmurings of the children of Israel, whereby they murmur against you.
6 ¶And Moses spake unto the children of Israel, and every one of their princes gave him a rod apiece, for each prince one, according to their fathers’ houses, even twelve rods: and the rod of Aaron was among their rods.
7 And Moses laid up the rods before the Lord in the tabernacle of witness.
8 And it came to pass, that on the morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds.
9 And Moses brought out all the rods from before the Lord unto all the children of Israel: and they looked, and took every man his rod.
10 ¶And the Lord said unto Moses, Bring Aaron’s rod again before the testimony, to be kept for a token against the rebels; and thou shalt quite take away their murmurings from me, that they die not.

We can learn from this passage that we can receive a confirming witness that the Lord's chosen leaders are called by Him.

How's this for a nice little blast from the past?

So, brothers and sisters, in this long eternal quest to be more like our Savior, may we try to be “perfect” men and women in at least this one way now—by offending not in word, or more positively put, by speaking with a new tongue, the tongue of angels. Our words, like our deeds, should be filled with faith and hope and charity, the three great Christian imperatives so desperately needed in the world today. With such words, spoken under the influence of the Spirit, tears can be dried, hearts can be healed, lives can be elevated, hope can return, confidence can prevail. I pray that my words, even on this challenging subject, will be encouraging to you, not discouraging, that you can hear in my voice that I love you, because I do. More importantly, please know that your Father in Heaven loves you and so does His Only Begotten Son. When They speak to you—and They will—it will not be in the wind, nor in the earthquake, nor in the fire, but it will be with a voice still and small, a voice tender and kind. ¹² It will be with the tongue of angels.(x)

followers of my faith [Mormon Monday 84]

It's so funny; the moment I sit down to work on a Mormon Monday I immediately get so tired.

Anyway, you guys know about kudzu vines? They kind of look like this:

Sorta pretty. And apparently their flowers have a pleasant scent! So they don't look that bad, right?

You already know what I'm going to say.

They kill the trees they grow on. Simply overwhelm them with growth until they suffocate.

Somebody in my stake presidency noted that while a vine may look nice on your tree for a little bit, it's dangerous. Ideally you should just not go near the vine at all, unless you want your trees to die.

And...you can think of sin the same way!

Instead of posting a video today, I decided to revamp all my video posts on this blog! So you can see what books are in each video from the post (I know it's in the description but not everyone wants to click on the video). I also have a masterpost with the books I really recommend, so you don't even have to waste your time watching any videos! Probably post that tomorrow.
